Hi Andy,

I just stumbled across your Home of Golf TV on YouTube and had to watch every episode.

I really enjoyed the series and hope that you have many more to come in 2010.

I am fortunate enough to stay in Dunfermline and visit St Andrews at least once a month, more in the summer months when I can.

I thought I would bring to your attention that the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse is open to the public every year on St Andrews Day (November 30th) and that a vist inside of it would be of great interest to your viewers.

Could I also quote you some information from my Golf Club's (Pitfirrane) web site DunfermlineGolfClub.com

"Golf has been played in the Dunfermline area for centuries; King James V1 (and 1) and King Charles 1 were both keen players on the 'Golfdrum', a ridge to the north of the town. One of the earliest members of the club was Robert Lockhart who, with John Reid, introduced golf to the United States; both were from Dunfermline.
The magnificent Pitfirrane House is the historic home of the Halkett family since the 15th century and is a worthy clubhouse. The building is also spectacular inside with its medieval woodwork, Flemish stained glass and ornate plaster ceiling in the dining room."

You may find that of interest and maybe give us a vist sometime in the future.

Best Regard

Barry in a match play game one player plays a shot into the hole as the other player has played more shots he lifts his ball and concedes the hole the other player goes to the flag and finds his ball jammed against the flag but just lifts the ball out what is the rule?

Ah us cack handed golfers are a rare breed, most people i play with just can't understand how i manage to play the way i do. Most people say have you tried playing with lefted clubs but yes i have and i was useless the cack handed grip with right handed clubs just feels right to me and i play all other sports this way ( Cricket,Hockey etc) if i change it around the other way to a normal grip i can't even hit the ball. The only problem i have with my cack handed grip is i can't seem to pull the club as far back as i would like to due to the grip so i do lose a little distance. I have came down from a 28 to 14 handicap and will never change. I even love putting this way as this seems to be the best part of my game, the only other draw backs are you can't really read up on how to play properly in magazines as the grip is back to front so most advice is useless, and the other draw back is people always wanting to talk to you about your shall we say funny grip anyway keep it up all you cack handers out there. Jon

Hi Andy,

Great stuff. I'll be staying at the Fairmont next week for the R&A Rules School. Won't be able to play in this weather though.

If you would like, maybe we could meet up for a whiskey or something. Drop me a line.

Cheers,
Roy

Hi Andy,

I started playing golf 25 years ago when I was 37 ...I am as good as ever off 10 handicap - thanks in part to your stuff..

I play with a lot of Irish guys who played GAA Hurling. Most of them play 'cack handed' and some are really great golfers..so nothing wrong with it.

I enjoy the rules of golf too...Keep up the good work..

Best Regards

Regarding GPS systems on golf buggies, many clubs are now allowing these in competitions but I cannot see where this has been sanctioned by the rules of golf. Can you advise, thanks

Barry's Reply:

Sue,

The Note to Rule 14-3, Artificial Devices, Unusual Equipment and Unusual Use of Equipment, states, "The Committee may make a Local Rule allowing players to use devices that measure or gauge distance only."

So, GPS devices may only be used in competition if there is a Local Rule permitting their use. It is important to check this before the competition starts as the penalty for a breach of Rule 14-3 is disqualification.

Regards,

Barry

Started playing golf in North Dakota when I was about 17 yrs old. When I joined the Navy I gave it up for about 8 yrs. What a mistake that was because there were alot of great courses I could have played when traveling the Pacific. My mistake. I now play in a group here in Texas where golf and having a good time is what it is about. Golf is a good relief from the real world! Thanks for your series and all you do for golf,Andy.
